The Liberty Leave: Why Stepping Away And Investing In Solo Travel Are Key to Increasing Freedom And Financial Independence w/ Danica Nelson

Anastasia Barbuzzi

"A 'Liberty Leave' is the act of giving yourself permission to take time and space to leave behind what doesn’t bring you liberty, for what does."  - Danica Nelson

Happy International Women's Day! There is no better time to share this week's conversation with Danica Nelson all about a significant key to our independence: liberating ourselves financially. After working in the marketing industry for 10+ years, she recently moved into full-time entrepreneurship as a creator and embarked on a mission to encourage what she's coined a Liberty Leave

Danica took her first trip outside of North America in 2014 to Thailand and fell in love with international travel. Since then, she's visited 25+ countries, including her first "Liberty Leave" trip, where she took six months off from work to solo travel to six countries in Asia. Currently, Danica is based in Malaga, Spain, on her Liberty Leave 2.0.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Her money story
  • How she's working on and overcoming a scarcity mindset
  • Her journey to earning six-figures
  • Her first Liberty Leave and what it took to get there
  • The value of solo travel
  • Life in Spain
  • Lifestyle changes she makes to prep for a Liberty Leave
  • How to stop comparing yourself to others
  • What to consider before committing to a big savings goal (like a Liberty Leave)
  • Her favourite travel deal sites
  • Money lessons she wishes she had known in her early 20s
  • The reality of being a full-time content creator and entrepreneur
